Abstract

436,422. High - tension switches. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 7, 1935, No. 540. Convention date, Jan. 5, 1934. [Class 38 (v)] The relatively movable contacts d, e of a gas-blast switch are contained in a nozzle of insulating material through which compressed gas flows in a single direction during the operation of interrupting the circuit, the nozzle being provided with one or more neck portions b located between the positions occupied by the contacts when fully separated. The neck portion of the nozzle may be elongated, and the pressure behind the neck portion may be regulated by means of devices in a draught tube communicating with the nozzle. In a modification, Fig. 4, the moving contact d passes through a number of neck portions b<1>-b<3> alternating with widened portions c<1>-c<3>.
