457,442. Gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 17, 1936, No. 22621. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] Pneumatic actuation.-A gas-blast switch has a tubular support which acts as a pressure-gas reservoir and consists of a plurality of tubes or pipes of relatively small cross-section joined together to form an inherently rigid framework 1. In a polyphase application, the individual phase-switches are mounted towards the edge of one face, and from the rear edge of that face a pipe 7 extends to the branches 8 of the individual switches, the whole being mounted on rollers 2. The gas-supply in the frame 1 may serve for a single switching-out operation involving the blowing-out of the arcs and even the operation of the movable contacts. Alternatively, the supply pipe may open from below into the interior of the insulator 4, the pipe in this case being arranged with switching and control members for the gas inside the space delimited by the frame.
