Abstract
400,385. Pack-parachutes. POPELAK, J., 68, Kraiovska, Prague. Aug. 15, 1932, No. 22873. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1931. [Class 4.] A parachute pack comprising a pocket for the enclosure of a pilot parachute which has a frame in the form of a book is fitted with closure studs which are mounted so as to be free to swing in all directions to prevent jamming when the rip cord is pulled. Studs 2 slotted for the passage of rip cord pins 5 are mounted in bearings 10 secured to the lower-most flap 1. The rip cord may be pulled either by a handle 7 or by a static cord 9 connected to the cord through coupling hooks housed in a tube 8 and adapted to separate when pulled out therefrom. The pilot parachute has a frame comprising wings 13, 17, Fig. 5, hinged together and urged apart by torsion springs 15 contained in a hollow hinge. Alternatively tension springs may be employed. The bearings for the studs 2 may be carried by the frame member 13. In this form withdrawal of the pins 5 releases the frame member 17 which moves upwardly forcing the flaps of the pack off the studs 2.
