Parachutes.-A parachute container is provided with a closing flap or flaps adapted when released at one edge to coil up in the direction of the opposite edge. A flap adapted to be selectively opened at either of two opposite edges may be used. One such flap may enclose a pilot parachute of a main parachute enclosed in a separate compartment which is opened only by the pull of the pilot parachute. A container is shown in which a main parachute is packed in a compartment closed by flaps 9 secured by pins 19 connected to a cord 8 which connects a pilot parachute to the top of the main parachute through a slot 10 in one of the faps 9. The pilot parachute is normally covered by a flap 11 having eyelets 12 at two of its edges to engage projections 13 on the container, two wire 14, 15 securing the flap in position. The wire 14 is provided with a ring 16 to enable it to be manually released when required, but the wire 15 is connected to a cord 17 which is attached to the aircraft when it is required to effect automatic release. The other edges 21 of the flap 11 have springs to cause it to curl up as shown when one is released. The main parachute may be enclosed by a flap similar to the flap 11 instead of by the flaps 9.
