Abstract

360,061. Parachute packs. LUNDHOLM AKTIEBOLAG, C. H., 4, Võstra Trõdgardsgatan, Stockholm.-(Assignees of Lundholm, C. H.; 4, Võstra Tradgardsgatan, Stockholm.) Aug. 5, 1930, No. 23475. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1929. [Class 4.] Parachutes adapted for combined manual and automatic release have their packs closed by two flaps interconnected by a closing member separate from the pack itself, one flap being released manually and the other automatically, the arrangement being such that release of either flap causes release of the other which is opened by elastic means and carries the closing member with it. The pilot parachute is nested under flaps 20, 20<1>, Fig. 1, which are secured to the sides of the pack 10 and 'are opened by blade springs 21 which tend to roll up the flaps outwardly. Rubber springs may also be employed secured to loops 22 on the free edges of the flaps and to corresponding loops on the back of the pack. The closing member 23, Fig. 4, is disposed over the pilot parachute and under the flaps 20, 201 and is provided with conical studs 24 which project through corresponding eyelets in the flap edges, the flaps being secured by piano wires 26, 27 respectively passed through holes in studs 24. Wire 26 is passed through a flexible tube 28 and is connected to a pull ring 29 and wire 27 is guided through a tube 30 and connected to the static line 31 of the parachute. Line 31 terminates in a loop 32 by which it is secured to the aircraft. The studs 24 may be rotatably mounted to avoid sticking of the wire. The pack proper containing the main parachute is closed by flaps 11, 12, Fig. 3, of which the free ends are divided into parts 11a, 11b and 12a, 12b respectively, all except the last which is fitted with loops 13 being provided with holes. The holes in the lower parts 11a, 12a allow of the insertion of a temporary fastening means such as a rod to hold the flaps in position whilst the loops 13 on part 12b are passed through the holes in part 11b and secured by pins 16 secured to shroud lines 17 of the pilot parachute. In modifications rings may be substituted for the studs 24 and the guide 30 may be omitted, the wire 27 being connected directly to the line 31.
