[Class 40 (v).] Quiescent push-pull amplifiers, in which the valves of a pair act for alternate half-waves, are protected against overloading by including an idle resistance or other impedance or impedance network in the external circuit, in addition to'the loud-speaker or other usual load. The grid circuit may have a glow discharge lamp in shunt, as a protection against excessive gridswing ; or the arrangements may be such that when strong signals are received the preceding stages overload before the push-pull stage can do so.
