Nov. 10, 1931, No. 31173. Convention date, Nov. 10, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 51 (ii).] In a "twin" flue coke oven in which the upflow and down-flow flues 15, 16 are connected at their lower ends for the recirculation of a portion of the outflowing gases, the upper openings 25 and the lower openings 29 between each pair of flues are both controlled so that a correct circulation can be maintained under all conditions. The upper control is constructed so that the passage cannot be reduced beyond a predetermined size, and the size of the lower opening is always less than and preferably not more than three-fifths of the size of the upper opening. The oven illustrated has transverse regenerators arranged in pairs and adapted for use with lean or strong gas as desired.
