[Class 87 (ii).] A bar of plastic toffee or similar material is fed to a severing device and the cut-off portion is fed into a wrapping, coating, &c. machine. The toffee is fed along a trough 4 by continuously rotating sizing-rollers 5, 6, the lower of which projects through a slot in the base of the trough, and is delivered into a guide trough 7 mounted on a bell-crank lever 8 pivoted at 9. In its normal position the trough 7 is in line with the trough 4. A rotary knife 10 severs a piece from the end of the bar which is thrust into the pocket of a wrapping-machine 13 by a transversely-operated pusher 12. In order to prevent the pusher from fouling the bar, which commences to issue from the guide trough 7 as soon as the severing has been effected, the guide trough is raised into the position indicated in Fig. 1 in broken lines. The movement is effected in synchronism with the movement of the pusher by the action of opposed cam faces on a forked lever. The link 23 which connects the forked lever with the bell-crank lever 8 carries a hardened steel block 25 held between locking studs 26 on the lever 8. The pusher is cut away at 30, on the side facing the knife, to avoid interference at the commencement of the movement of the guide trough. A bridge piece 31 ensures that the bar is brought down into its proper line of feed when the guide trough descends.
