659,184. Cutting-machines. TIMSONS, Ltd., and TIMSON, E. A. Feb. 15, 1949, No. 4130. [Class 31 (i)] A paper-cutting machine, of the type comprising a rotary cylinder fitted with a knife or knives which co-operate with a fixed blade, is characterized by the provision of a carrier on or over which the paper is moved. into ' cutting position and movable means associated With, and responsive to or timed with the movement of, each knife for moving the carrier relatively to the fixed blade to strip the severed edge of the oncoming paper from that blade. As shown in Fig. 1, a rotary cylinder 2 carries a knife 4 which co-operates with a fixed knife 8. A web of material 7, fed by rollers 5, 6, passes over a carrier plate 9 which forms part of a parallel linkage system comprising the plate 9, a fixed bracket 15, a pivoted link 13 and a lever 17. The plate 9 is normally urged forward over the top of blade 8 by spring 19 acting on the upper end of lever 17, but prior to the descent of blade 4 a shoe 26 on the cylinder acts on a roller 24 mounted on the lever 17 and swings the link system to retract the plate 9 to the position shown. After -completion of the cut the shoe 26 passes away from the roller 24 and the plate 9 is swung over blade 8, thereby stripping the edge of the oncoming web from the fixed blade.
