Abstract
680,141. Cutting webs. AUTOPACK, Ltd., (formerly AUTOPACK (LONDON), Ltd.), LEE, G. A., SMITH, A. R., and HOPKINS, C. J. Jan. 5, 1951. [Feb. 6, 1950] No. 2973/50. Class 31 (i). [Also in Groups XVI and XVII] A paper web 3 is fed by co-operating friction rollers 6, 7, intermittently driven by ratchet and crank means, along a table 2 and beneath a transverse bar 16. When the feed has ceased, the bar is pressed down on to the table by a spring 17 to grip the web and a knife 20, projecting through a transverse slot in the table, is moved across, along and in contact with the bar 16, to cut a length, to form a wrapper, off the web. At the end of the return stroke of the knife, a cam surface 27 thereon contacts a pin 28 on the bar 16 to lift it to allow the next forward movement of the web. The blade 20 is carried by a sleeve 19 slidable on a transverse rod 18 and movable therealong by link means 22 actuated by a face cam 23. The severed wrapper cut from the web is removed through a hole 41 in the table 2 by downward movement of a funnel x.
