Abstract

496,699. Cutting webs. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and BROOK, L. Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22736. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Groups XVII and XVI] Wrapping machines, for example machines such as are described in Specification 396,212, [Group XVII], are provided with means for facilitating the feed of an additional wrapper with the main wrapper. When a sufficient length to form a wrapper has been drawn forward by the grippers, a length is cut off by a knife a. The knife is pivotally mounted at a2, Fig. 5, on a vertical axis in a block on a horizontal axis a<3>, and co-operates with a shear plate c mounted on a vertical axis c<1>. After the cutting stroke has been made, the plate c is moved about its pivot away from the cutting position, as shown in section in Fig. 6, and the knife a is also moved away downwards to allow grippers f space to operate. The plate c is formed with a curved part c<7> so that the knife a is impelled into contact with it by a spring a<1> in all positions.
