[Also in Group VIII] In a machine for cutting a slot in a piece of metal or other stiff sheet material comprising a pivoted blade 3 with a cutting edge along each side to co-operate with a pair of fixed blades 2, the pivoted blade is shaped so as to ensure that the angle between the blade and the work remains constant. The end of the blade 3 is formed with a rib 3b to give a clean end to the slot. A rib may be provided at the other end also. For cutting relatively wide slots, the single blade 3 may be replaced by two blades secured together the required distance apart. The blade 3 is mounted in a beam 4 pivoted at 5 and adapted to be operated by a treadle. A stop 11 on the machine table 1 serves to position the work.
