Abstract
384,068. Motor power plant. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. and GREGSON, W., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London. Nov. 20, 1931, No. 32264. [Class 110 (iii).] In a marine power plant high pressure steam from boilers A passes to the H.P. stage turbine E, through a pipe I to the triple expansion engine B, C, D, and is exhausted to a L.P. turbine stage F, thence to a condenser G. A reducing valve K allows the stage E to be byepassed and steam from the boilers to pass directly to the engine B. For generating electricity, when the propeller shaft is idle, a further byepass is provided to allow the turbine to be run independently of the reciprocating engine. Part of the L.P. steam exhausted from the engine at D may be re-superheated and afterwards mixed with steam at an equal pressure in the circuit.
