Abstract

[Class 114] [Also in Group XXVI] A gas turbine power plant for installation in a ship or other confined space comprises a low pressure turbine 3 driving a co-axial available power output device such as a generator 2 mounted on a main base 1 and a high pressure turbine 6 driving a co-axial working fluid compressor 7 mounted on a sub-base 5 which is mounted on and is removable from the main base 1. The air from the compressor 7 is heated in a heat exchanger 9 by the exhaust gases of the turbine 3 before passing to the combustion chambers 10. An exciter for the generator 2 driven by the turbine 6 may be mounted on the sub-base 5 and used for starting the plant and for supplying power to the auxiliary pumps which, with the fuel and oil tanks, may be mounted in the main base beneath the generator 2 and low pressure turbine 3. The air released from a pressure relief valve 13 passes through a pipe 14 to the exhaust 15. Specification 599,775, [Group) XXVI], is referred to.
