Abstract
604,155. Gas turbines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 30, 1945, No. 28776. Convention date, May 5. [Class 110 (iii)] In a gas turbine plant of the type in which the turbine driving the compressor is driven by working medium flowing in a circuit and a useful output turbine is driven by working medium taken off from the circuit, the exhaust gases from the useful output turbine pass through a heat exchanger at normal loads but. at higher loads pass through an exhaust gas turbine installed after the useful output turbine. The heat exchanger may be used to pre-heat the air for a combustion chamber in the plant and the exhaust gas turbine may be used to drive a compressor supplying make-up air to the circuit. The air from the compressor 1 is divided into two parts, one part flows through a heat exchanger 5 and a tube system 9 in a conbustion chamber 10 to the turbine 12 driving the compressor and from there through the heat exchanger 5 and cooler 15 back to the compressor and .the other part flows through a heat exchanger 7 to act as combustion air in the combustion chamber 10 which supplies gas to the useful output turbine 19. The exhaust gases from the turbine 19, at normal loads, pass to the exhaust pipe 25 through the heat exchanger 7 but at higher loads are diverted by means of the valves 21 and 22 through the exhaust gas turbine 23 driving the compressor 31. The valves 27 and 28 are operated simultaneously with the valves 21 and 22 so that at normal loads the make-up air is taken from the atmosphere but at higher loads is supplied by the compressor 31.
