Abstract
398,505. Powergenerating systems. GREGSON, W., 32, Farringdon Street, London. March 11, 1932, No. 7316. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (iii).] A uniflow steam engine comprising two or more identical units 3 and supplied with steam from generators 1, 2 which is superheated in an electrically-heated superheater 7, exhausts to the low-pressure element 8 of a turbine 9, 8 which drives an electric generator 10. The engine exhaust may be byepassed to the condenser 11 and the turbine element 8 thus shortcircuited. The high-pressure turbine element 9 may be fed from the superheater 7 through an automatic valve 21. The energy of the generator 10 may be supplied to a motor 14 on the main shaft 15, or may be utilized for other purposes when the main engine 3 is shut down. Energy from the generator 10 may be utilized in the superheater 7, or may be employed for feedwater heating, lighting, or other auxiliary services. The uniflow engine may be of the opposed piston type.
