Abstract

[Class 110 (iii)] In a steam power plant, standby plant is heated and started by steam supplied from accumulators. In Fig. 1, a turbine 2, 3 is heated and started up until the boiler 1 is ready for operation by steam taken through valves 7, 8, 10 from an accumulator 4, previously charged with live steam by line 5. Valves 7, 8, 10 are then closed and valve 11 opened. The steam from the accumulators may be led through the superheater of a steam generator before use in the turbine. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement where the drum 22 of a steam generator 21 is used as an accumulator supplying steam to the L.P. reserve standby turbine 29 through the turbine 28 or valve 33. The turbines 28, 29 may be the high and low pressure stages of one machine.
