Abstract

471,745. Power generating systems. GILLI, P. March 9, 1936, No. 6974. [Class , 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In plant for an electric power station comprising a steam boiler 101 supplying steam at 30 atmospheres to a high pressure turbine 104 the accumulator equipment consists of a charging and superheating accumulator 109 with an additional water space 110, and two groups of three accumulators in series 111-116. Charging is effected by water being withdrawn by a pump 126 into a jacket vaporizer 123 round the boiler steam pipe 103, the generated steam returning through pipe 129 to the first accumulator, and steam passing to the remainder through a valve pipe 119 when the pressure in accumulator 109 exceeds 110 atmospheres. Charging is regulated by a valve 27 which may open or close as the temperature in pipe 103 exceeds or falls below 400‹ C. Or the valve may increase or decrease the water supply to the vaporizer as the boiler pressure exceeds or drops below 30 atmospheres subject to the closure of the valve when the steam temperature falls below 380‹ C. In discharging, the storage steam is throttled down by a valve 135 to about the pressure of the main steam pipe which it enters after passage through superheater 121, valve 134 not being opened to discharge accumulator 109 until the storage pressure has dropped to 40 atmospheres. When the main steam pressure is reached the accumulators may discharge through a valve 138 into a low-pressure turbine 105 down to about two atmospheres. Charging is then effected up to 30 atmospheres by means of boiler steam admitted through valve 140. Replacement water is pumped from a condensate tank 107 either into the vaporizer 123 or directly into accumulator 109. An electric heater may be operated in parallel with vaporizer 123 to utilize cheap night current. A valve 142 may open to allow steam to blow off into the main steam pipe when the highest storage pressure is reached or the valve may be disposed in a pipe delivering water for vaporization in superheater 121 when water reaches maximum level in the accumulators 115, 116.
