Abstract

383,963. Knitting-machines. MAY HOSIERY MILLS, Chestnut Street, Nashville, Tennessee, and HEMPHILL CO., 131, Clay Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, both in U.S.A. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 32602. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1930. Divided on 383,957. [Class 74 (ii).] The belt-shipping mechanism is operable by a detector stop mechanism, by cam-operated mechanism associated with the main pattern mechanism, and manually. The belt-shipping mechanism comprises an upper bracket 449, slidably mounted upon a second slidable bracket 453 and urged so as to shift the belt to the loose pulley by a spring 467 mounted upon the second bracket 453. The manually operable means comprises a lever 451 provided with a substantially triangular-shaped opening 456 which acts as a cam to a pin 457 received within it. The pin 457 projects from a trip lever 458 pivotally mounted upon the bracket 449. The lever 458 is normally engaged by a shoulder 465, but upon depression of the pin 457, the lever 458 and bracket 449 are released so that the belt can be moved to the loose pulley by the spring 467. Fast, slow, and loose pulleys 445, 446, 447 are provided, and a cam 471 is so shaped as to move the bracket 453 to the three positions for the belt to be placed on each of the pulleys. Stop-motions.-The trip lever 458 is depressed and the belt moved to the loose pulley 447 by accumulation of yarn upon the needles or upon breakage of a needle latch. A pivoted detector member 482 is arranged above the needles and, when actuated by accumulation of yarn &c., operates through links 497, 499, 504, 508, 520 and block 521 to depress the trip lever 458. The invention is described in connection with a circular rib machine.
