[Class 74 (ii).] The screwed shaft 44b for adjusting the narrowing points 44 lengthwise of the needle bed of a full-fashioned machine is mounted in the pivoted narrowing frame 47. A pinion 44c on the shaft 44b engages a pinion 44d on a shaft 44x provided with a spring drum 44<1> for a steel band 44e. The points are moved forwardly when the band 44e is actuated by a lever 43g engaging a cam 431h on the main cam shaft a. The band 44e is arranged to pass near the axis about which the frame 47 pivots. For rotating the screwed shaft backwardly for heeltab narrowing a pawl 46 actuates a ratchet wheel 45 on the shaft 44x. The pawl 46 is urged by a spring 46g into the path of the wheel 45 as the wheel is lifted by the frame 47, but is normally held out of engagement by a pin 46c received in a slot 46b in the pawl. The pin 46c is fixed upon an arm 46d upon a shaft 46e mounted in the links 46f which raise the frame 47. An arm 46k extending rearwardly from the shaft 46e is held in horizontal position by a catch 46n pivoted to a collar 46m on the frame 47. When the heel tab is to be fashioned the block 44a carrying the narrowing points engages the catch 46n to release the arm 46k, and the pawl 46 is thrown into operative position. A handle 44j is provided for manually operating the shaft 44b.
