Abstract
483,041. Knitting - machines. COTTON, Ltd., W., and WILDERS, G. Oct. 6, 1936, No. 27102. [Class 74 (ii)] A Cotton's or other straight-bar machine has a main controlling device or chain 10 with several rows of stops for controlling the various operations of the machine and a further row of stops 21 controlling means for suspending the rocking of the chain for predetermined periods. As shown, the chain drum 11 is advanced by a cam-actuated clawker 13 that is held away from its ratchet 12 until a projection 13a on the clawker drops into a notch 16 on a bluffing disc 15 carried by an independently movable ratchet wheel 17. The ratchet 17 is driven by a second cam actuated clawker 18 that is normally held in inoperative position by the action of a spring 28 and connections 22, 25, 26, 27 until a stud 21 engages a stud lever 20a. The drum 11 or the bluff 15 or both may be racked manually by means of clawkers 30, 31 mounted on a spring- controlled hand lever 29 and movable towards and away from their respective ratchets by levers 34, 35 that are held in the desired position by spring detents 36. The chain drum may also be rotated by a handle 44 through a clutch and gearing 45, 46. All the stud levers may be held away from the stops by a bar 43 on the arm 42 of a hand lever 40 provided with a retaining catch 48. A spring finger 52 engaging a notched disc 51 prevents over-racking of the chain drum. Specifications 21340/10, [Class 74 (ii)], and 380,525 are referred to.
