Abstract

554.442. Knitting-machines. MELLOR BROMLEY & CO., Ltd., and SHORTLAND, A. Dec. 31, 1941, No. 16839. [Class 74 (ii)] The mechanism for advancing the jack sinkers of a straight-bar machine comprises a helical cam 12 arranged with its axis lengthways of the line of needles. The cam may be arranged to rotate continuously in the same direction, two oppositely disposed spirals being provided, or it may be arranged to oscillate. In each case the jack sinkers are advanced seriatim. The cam may act directly upon the jack sinkers, or sliding or pivoted jack members may be interposed between the cam and the sinkers. The cam may be built up of elements 112b arranged side by side either in a helical groove in a cylindrical drum or in a helical frame member. Alternatively spirally disposed elements may be secured in a series of circumferential grooves in a drum member. In yet another form lobe-like elements are threaded upon a shaft and are positioned in their correct helical position by the engagement of pins projecting from each element with holes in the adjacent element.
