Stop-motions.-A trip device for stopping a stocking or other knitting-machine on the breakage or exposure to excessive tension of any one of a number of threads fed to it is housed in a casing mounted on a standard above the machine and comprises a plate 23 mounted on a shaft 25 and turned by a coil spring to actuate connections 28 - - 30 and stop the machine. Normally the plate is held stationary by a latch 43 which engages a hook 42 on the end of an arm 35 pivoted at 36 to a base-plate 85. This arm has a slot 37 which engages a pin 37a on a lever 38 pivoted at 39 to the plate 85 and the lever 38 has a slot 40 in which works a pin 41 carried by the plate 23. The latch 43 is pivoted at 46 and can be tripped by means of a pin 17 acting on the arm 45<a> of the latch. The pin 17 is mounted on a disc which is controlled by all the threads and is turned when any one breaks. The pin 17 lies in the fork 18 of a spring lever 19 which carries a roller 22 bearing on an edge 24 of the plate 23, by means of which the disc can be re-set. The latch is also tripped by a pin 48 controlled by an. upper stop-motion which is operated by excessive tension on the threads. Specification 242,437 is referred to.
