Abstract

780,248. Knitting-machines. ZAPADOMORAVSKE STROJIRNY, NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 4, 1954 [Jan. 2, 1953], No. 153/54. Class 74 (2). A circular machine for knitting elastic top hosiery has the elastic yarn guide 1, a stitch cam 39 for causing the needles to knit the elastic yarn, a control cam for withdrawing the sinkers when the elastic yarn is fed, a jack deflecting cam and a striping attachment for actuating inelastic yarn guides, all controlled by a single actuating lever 20 which is operated from the pattern drum 23 of the machine. Needle selection for taking the elastic yarn is achieved by the provision of picks which are selected by cams 49, 50. Yarn severing and clamping mechanism for the elastic and inelastic yarns is provided, operated by a lever 151 from the pattern drum. Frictionally driven geared rollers 120, 121 are also provided for feeding the elastic yarn and are controlled by a cam on the pattern drum. The elastic yarn guide 1 is mounted on a pivoted spindle 5 which is rotated to swing to guide into and out of operative position by a link 18 controlled by the actuating lever 20 which is operated by the pattern drum 23. The screw 35 of a lever 26, which controls a sinker cam, abuts an arm 3 holding the guide 1 so that as the guide is swung into and out of its operative position the sinker cam is positioned to withdraw the sinkers to enable the elastic yarn to be fed to the needles or allows the sinkers to continue in the normal fabric holding down position. The link 18 through an arm 14 and pivot 15 also controls bluffing discs adapted to bluff the pawl of ratchet mechanism actuating a striping attachment associated with the inelastic yarn guides at a further feeder. The stitch cam 39 is also controlled by the link 18 and lever 20 by being moved inwardly to an operative position by the arm 14 when the arm is actuated by the link. Needle selection to enable the selected needles to knit under the cam 39 is achieved by the provision of a lower rockable jack and an intermediate jack, all of the lower jacks being rocked into a position in which they will engage a raising cam 74 by a cam 49, but the further cam 50 returning certain of these jacks to their initial position to avoid them being raised. The remaining jacks are then raised, causing the intermediate jacks and needles to be raised for the purpose of taking and knitting the elastic yarn. The cam 49 is controlled by a link 60 attached to the lever 20 and is therefore actuated simultaneously with the elastic yarn guide 1. The cam 50 is operated by a separate link 67 from a second lever 69 also controlled by the pattern drum. The elastic yarn severing and clamping mechanism comprises a pivoted cutting and clamping blade 141 which is actuated by a lever 145 controlled by lever 151 to sever the yarn between its bland and an associated member 137 and to clamp the yarn between its other face and member 138. The inelastic yarn clamping and severing mechanism is arranged on the plate 128 and is actuated from the lever 151 through link 153. The elastic yarn feeding rollers 120, 121 are rotated through the frictional engagement of discs 122, 123, the disc 123 being driven from the dial of the machine by belt and pulley mechanism. The disc 122 is moved away from the disc 123 when it is desired to discontinue feeding and this control is effected by a cable control from the pattern drum.
