Abstract
1,002,549. Knitting- machines. H. STOLL, G. STOLL, E. STOLL, E. STOLL Jnr, J. STOLL, A. STOLL,R.E.STOLL, and M.STOLL. June 9,1964 [June 10,1963], No. 23793/64. Heading D1C. A flat bed machine having means enabling a fully fashioned patterned fabric to be produced is provided with needle controlling mechanism which ensures that the marginal portion of the fashioned fabric is of an unpatterned nature. Selectors 12 are arranged in slots in a selector bed 11 and correspond to the number of needles 2 in the needle bed. The selectors are pivoted at 12<SP>1</SP> and each has an upstanding projection 14 such that when the selector is pivoted the projection 14 projects through a slot 15 in the needle bed and engages and raises a corresponding needle jack 3 thereby bringing the jack butt 3<SP>11</SP> into the path of a cam 10 on the cam carriage. A further butt 3<SP>1</SP> on the jack 3 is then caused to engage the cams 8, 9 whereby the jack causes the needle 2 to be projected to engage the knitting cams 4... 7 and thereby take and knit yarn. The pivoting of the selectors and thereby the selection of the needles to take and knit yarn is normally determined by a bank of selector cams 17 which are movable into and out of an operative position to engage butts 16 on member 13 engaged over the upper end of the selector 12. When in a lowered position with a rear projection engaging a lower recess 23 in the selector 12 the butts 16 are in alignment with the cams 17 so that patterning can be achieved on the corresponding needles by selection of the cams 17. At the marginal portions of the fabric where unpattern effect is desired the member 13 is raised on a number of selectors so that its rear projection engages an upper recess 23<SP>1</SP> and in which position the butts 16 no longer remain aligned with the cams 17 and are thereby uninfluenced by the cams. Simultaneously, however, an upper butt 13<SP>1</SP> on each of the elevated members 13 is aligned with a cam 24 which actuates all of the elevated members 13 and a corresponding selectors and ensures that the associated needles are operated and knit. The members 13 which correspond to the needles which as fashioning progresses become the marginal needles at each end of the needle bed, are raised to their elevated position by a lifting lever 18 one at each end of the bed and each having a width which extends beneath the butt 13<SP>11</SP> of several members 13. The levers 18 are mounted on a rod 19 and are movable therealong according to the dictates of the fashioning mechanism so that in turn they are positioned beneath the butts 13<SP>11</SP> of the operative end members. As the cam carriage is traversed a presser bar 20 thereon engages an arm 18<SP>1</SP> of the lever 18 pivoting the lever and thereby raising the end members 13 to their elevated position to be engaged by the cam 24.
