984, 821. Knitting. SINGER CO. May 8, 1961 [June 8, 1960], No. 16571/61. Headings D1C and D1K. A four feeder 111, 112, 113, 114 circular machine has needles 102 and jacks 103 with butts 104, 105, 106 and 54, 55, 204, 205, 206 respectively of varying length, and needle cams and jack selectors 203 operated from a pattern drum and a bank of cam discs 123 to select the jacks and needles at the respective feeders to enable all over tuck work to be produced as illustrated in Fig. 55. For this purpose some of the butts are short whilst others are of medium length or are long. The selectors 203 are controlled from a single bank of cam discs 123 rotated one revolution for each of eight revolutions of the needle cylinder. Selectors are positioned prior to two only of the feeds namely 111 and 113. Rods or levers 230, 223 operated from the pattern drum of the machine control the upper a lower pair of the selectors at each feed such that during selection one pair of selectors at each feed is rendered partially inoperative such that the corresponding cams on the discs 123 cause the selectors to engage desired butts on the jacks. Mechanism controlled from a cam drum is provided for bringing a splicing yarn guide into and out of operation during the knitting of the reinforced portions. In addition the stitch cam of the machine is adjustable to enable the stocking to be tapered under quality control. The yarns for the various feeders are fed from bobbins which are housed in a container provided with means for controlling the humidity of the yarns. Your clamping and severing means is the provided.
