Abstract

383,165. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent Treuhand Ges. fur Electrische Gluhlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) April 5, 1932, No. 9798. Convention date, May 7, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] In an enclosed electric arc lamp of the type wherein the electrodes 7 have an electronemitting filament 9 permanently connected across them, and the envelope is provided with a gas filling and a pool 10 of vaporizable metal, a screen 11 is arranged below the filament to protect the vaporizable pool from excessive heating. The screen, which is supported by wires 12 fused into a glass bead 14 supported on transverse wires 13, may consist of a circular gauze of molybdenum, as shown, or may be in the form of a hemispherical cup of heat resistant material which is polished on the inside to reflect heat and light rays back to the reflector normally provided on the lamp fitting. The filament 9 is supported by eyelets 8, 15 respectively formed in the electrode-supporting wires 6 and screen-supporting wires 12. The envelope 3 consists of quartz or other glass such as borosilicate glass which is transparent to ultraviolet rays, and the filling may consist of argon, nitrogen or other gas.
