355,175. Electric pedestal lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gliihlampen, 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 19, 1931, No. 5289. Convention date, May 16, 1930. [Class 75 (iv).] An electric pedestal lamp for operating on ordinary supply voltages comprises one or more incandescent electric lamp bulbs and one or more electric luminous discharge tubes, the base of the pedestal accommodating the necessary heating, starting, and regulating apparatus for the tubes. In the form shown, a pedestal 1 carries a vertical axiallyarranged tube 2 with hot electrodes and two or more bulbs 3, 4 surrounded by a shade 5. The tubes may be filled with a gas such as neon, helium, argon, nitrogen, or carbonic acid gas, a vapour such as sodium, cadmium, or mercury (the latter two for daylight effects), or a mixture of gas and vapour. The bulbs may be made of coloured glass, the bulbs and the tubes may be made of a glass that is transparent to ultra-violet rays, and the bulbs may serve as series resistances for the tubes.
