355,173. Electric table lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 17, 1931, No. 5045. Convention date, May 16, 1930. [Class 75 (iv).] A portable electric table lamp for operating on ordinary supply voltages comprises one or more incandescent electric lamp bulbs and one or more electric luminous discharge tubes, the base of the lamp accommodating the hot electrodes and the necessary heating, starting, and regulating apparatus of the tubes. In the form shown, a substantially hemispherical base 1 carries a centrally-disposed bulb 2 concentrically surrounded by a vertically-arranged circular tube 3. The tubes may be filled with a gas such as neon, helium, argon, nitrogen, or carbonic acid gas, a vapour such as sodium, cadmium, or mercury (the latter two for daylight effects), or a mixture of gas and vapour. The bulbs may be made of coloured or opal glass, the bulbs and tubes may be made of glass that is transparent to ultra-violet rays, and the bulbs may serve as series resistances for the tubes.
