360,344. Electric ceiling &c. lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gliihlampen ; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) April 17, 1931, No. 11471. Convention date, May 16, 1930. [Class 75 (iv).] An electric ceiling or like lamp for operating on ordinary line voltages comprises a box member having a frosted glass or like translucent part 2, containing one or more elongated or other incandescent lamp bulbs 4 and one or more luminous discharge tubes 3 provided with hot electrodes, and a metal or like opaque part 1 containing the heating, starting and regulating apparatus for the tubes 3. The bulbs 4 may serve as series resistances for the tubes 3, and the latter may contain a gas such as neon, helium, argon, nitrogen or carbon dioxide, a vapour such as sodium, mercury or cadmium (the latter two for daylight effects), or a mixture of gas and vapour. The bulbs 4 and the part 2 may be coloured or, together with the tubes 3, may be made of glass that is transparent to ultra-violet rays.
