J.,147, Murray Road, and TUPPEN, E. B., 54, Hillmorton Road, all in Rugby. Oct. 16, 1933, No. 28614. [Class 75 (iv)] In a lantern which encloses a metal vapour electric discharge lamp and an incandescent filament electric lamp, means are provided to reduce the heating of the vapour lamp by the incandescent lamp during periods when the vapour lamp is extinguished and the vapour pressure therein is too high for discharge to begin. In the form shown a mercury vapour lamp 1 is surrounded by a chimney 2 of heat-resisting glass to shield it from the incandescent lamps 6. The chimney is supported by brass rods 4 from a vitreous enamel reflector 3 and the lantern is fitted with opal glass diffusing windows 8 and gauze ventilation panels 9, 10.
