Abstract

369,987. Discharge lamps. LEDERER, A., Hermesvilla, Vienna. Dec. 12, 1930, No. 37596. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] In electric discharge lamps provided with at least one heated electrode and containing a rare gas filling with the addition of mercury, the liquid mercury is located in the lamp in such a manner as to be shielded against exposure to the heated gas filling of the discharge space, thereby preventing excessive evaporation of mercury with its consequential effect upon the colour of the light. In the example the mercury 11 is located in the bottom of the neck 5 of the bulb 1, and the re-entrant portion 9 is surrounded by an annular partition 8 which is spaced apart from the neck 5. Leading-in wires 2, 3 are connected to the electrode supports 4, one of which is attached to a downwardly extending wire 7 supporting a ring 6 which carries a quantity of getter substance as described in Specification 369,596. The partition 8 may be made of heatinsulating or electrically-insulating material such as mica glass, quartz or the like, and is preferably transparent. Specification 301,412 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 301,412, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.].
