Abstract

547,092. Discharge lamps. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 23, 1941, No. 6630. Convention date, June 8, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] The support 26 for the electrode of a discharge lamp has a slidable connection with the electrode, and in the form shown comprises a disc of mica or metal supported from the envelope by flexible strips 33, 34, and a central socket 28 within which slides the wire 22 attached to electrode 13. Electrodes 13, 14 are cylinders collapsed at their ends on to wires 22, 16 forming conical portions 21 and fins 23. An insulated lead 17 connects electrode 13 to the punch 15, and also carries a wire 20 wrapped round the cylindrical part of electrode 13 to act as an additional support. The mercury filling is liberated from holder 24. As the lamp is adapted to emit ultraviolet light for sterilizing, the envelope 12 is of Corning 972 High - transmission ultra-violet glass.
