Abstract
429,030. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) Nov. 20, 1933, No. 32328. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1932. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] A headlight adapted to be carried by a vehicle comprises a discharge lamp 1 in which the discharge passes through the focus 27 of a projector 26 as a shunt across a loop-shaped incandescent filament 6 the ends 7, 8 of which are disposed symmetrically on either side of the common axis of the lamp and of the projector and in a plane passing through the focus and are coated with, or surround bodies of, material of low work function to form the electrodes. The bodies may consist of sintered mixtures of refractory metals and alkaline earths. The leading-in wires 3, 4 of the filament are secured together by glass beads 5, 18 and are welded at 16 to leading-in wires 14, 15 of a cylindrical vessel 10 which is provided with a cap 12 and surrounds, and supports by means of an annular spring 19, the spherical bulb 1. The cap 12 fits in a bayonet holder 22 which is held in the parabolic projector by a sleeve 25. The filling consists of rare gas and sodium and the bulb 1 is formed of borosilicate glass.
