Abstract
744,848. Photographic flash lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 15, 1953 [May 20, 1952], No. 13680/53. Class 9(2) To introduce the ignition means into an adhesive-coated flash bulb 1 containing actinically-burning wire 2 and having a capacity of about 8 c.cs. with longitudinal axis of 38 mms. and transverse axis of 22 mms., the bulb is placed with the neck opening turned upwards and the bead mount 4 is introduced by means of a tool. The mount 4 comprises a filament connecting lead wires 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which pass through a bead carrying an ignition paste. The free ends of the wires 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are bent back along the outer wall of the bulb and clamped by a cardboard ring 7 with the filament wire 8 in the required position within the bulb. Rotating gas flames 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are used to soften the glass and adhesive at the neck opening 3 and the edge of the exhaust tube 10. The tube 10 is then pressed against the neck to secure the wire 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. The lamp is then exhausted and the gas filling introduced, after which the tube 10 is sealed. Two projecting ribs on the bulb neck allow the bulb to be positioned in a holder with the outer ends 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of the leads acting as conductors.
