Abstract

381,354. Hinged couplings. MACINTOSH CABLE CO., Ltd., SARGENT, A., and ELDER, T., Sinfin Lane, Normanton, Derby. Oct. 26, 1931, No. 29680. [Class 38 (i ).] Connection between leads 4 and a socket coupling 17 is made through a ball-and-socket joint, the ball 7 having contact plates 8 on its surface that engage spring ball contacts 14 mounted in the socket wall 19. The housing 16 of each ball is formed as a unit with one socket 17. These units are laid in recesses in the opposed faces of a halved body 18, the halves being bolted together. The flex 5 is secured by a split ferrule 28 and a screw ring 13. Ventilation openings 11, 26 are provided for cooling. A switch may be arranged between one of the housings 16 and the corresponding socket.
