Abstract

563,894. Two - part couplings. O'BRIEN, J. F. Feb. 16, 1943, No. 2554. [Class 38 (i)] 'An adjustable-angle connector 12 for units 11 of a wiring system comprises two branches 16, 17 connected by a knuckle-joint, each part containing conductors 19, 65 formed with annular extensions 23, 69 surrounding the pivot 76 of the joint so as to maintain contact between the conductors of the two parts. The branch 17 has its conductors 19 held against the surfaces of a body 18 by ribs 41 on the interior of a housing 20 that slides laterally into position on the body and is secured by rivets 21 insulated from the contacts 19 by bosses 34 moulded on the body 18. The annular extensions 23 surround bosses 31 and lie on the surface of a projecting head 28. The conductors 65 of the branch 16 are moulded into the outer body members 64 having the annular extensions 69 exposed on the inner surfaces of the members so as to lie in contact with the extensions 23 when the branches are secured together. The conductors in both branches terminate in hollow members 25, 67 so placed as to be in line with the conductors of the wiring system to which they are connected by tapered plugs. The end of the branch 16 is formed as a male projection 63, 72 to fit into a socket formation on the moulding 11 of the wiring system and the end of the branch 17 is formed as a socket 36 to receive the male end. of the adjacent moulding 11.
