[Class 38 (i).] A socket-coupling unit adapted to receive the plug coupling at the side has its sockets d, e disposed at different levels relatively to the base to allow the flex to fall naturally from the sideentry aperture in the plug unit. A third socket m for earthing purposes may be provided also at a different level. When the invention is applied to a combined switch and socket coupling the two current-carrying sockets are connected respectively with one switch contact directly and with the other through a bridge across the end of the run-way for the switch tumbler.
