[Classes 37 and 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A combined plug-and-socket coupling and switch comprises a plug 1 provided with a projection 5 having contacts 7 on its nose 6 and being received in an aperture 18 in the socket 14, which has resiliently-mounted contacts 30 for engaging the contacts 7 when the plug is pivoted about journals 12 in bearings on the socket. The contacts 30 are mounted on arms 23 pivoting at 25 against springs 24 and having insulating heads 29 which engage behind the nose 6 on the projection. When the contacts have been made, an indicating surface 11 on the plug is exposed. In a modification, the plug is integral with an instrument (Fig. 14, not shown), whereupon the nose has sloping sides so that the contacts 30 can easily force the contacts 7 away therefrom.
