Abstract

722,290. Two-part couplings. PHILLIPS & BONSON, Ltd. June 9, 1953 [June 19, 1952 ; Dec. 2, 1952], Nos. 15492/52 and 30569/52. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] A device to enable the current in a circuit to be measured without breaking the circuit comprises two springs 1, 2 secured to an insulating block 5 and having tags 6, 7 for connection to the circuit, and a rigid member 14 connected to the spring 1. The springs and the member are electrically connected through contacts 10, 11, 12 and 13. A probe 15 connected to one pole of an ammeter is passed through an opening 17 in the member 14 thus depressing spring 1 and separating contacts 10 and 11 as shown, the circuit being meanwhile maintained through contacts 12, 13. The spring 2 is then pushed down against a stop 21 by a probe 16 connected to the other ammeter pole, thus separating contacts 12 and 13 so that the ammeter is now in circuit. An insulating cover 25, Fig. 4, is secured over the device, holes 26, 27 being provided for the probes. Corresponding recesses 30 and 31 in the support 5 and the cover 25 support rods 32 so that several devices may be mounted side-by-side. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the ammeter leads are connected to concentric conductors 42, 43 of a plug 41 which is pushed into a socket connector, which causes contacts on spring fingers 44, 45 and on a rigid member 52 to separate as before.
