Abstract
591,066. Two-part couplings combined with switches. PIERCE FOUNDATION, Inc., J. B. March 13, 1945, No. 6252. Convention date, June 3, 1944. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a plug-and-socket connector the flat resilient socket contacts 25, 26, bent as shown in the housing 18 are formed so that on inserting the plug pins 11, 12 into the flat-faced bight on the contacts, the tips 25c, 26c engage the contacts 27a, 28a on tho stationary terminals 27, 28 which are connected to the supply. The contacts 25, 26 which are provided with locating lugs 25e, 26e have their bends 25a, 26a in grooves 18b in the base 18a of the housing and protuberances 25d, 26d to engage holes 11a, 12a in the plug pins thereby retaining the plug in position.. On withdrawing the plug, the tips 25c, 26c spring away from the contacts 27a, 28a and are thus isolated from the supply. The stationary contacts comprise a strip bent near the ends to form the flats 28, Fig. 7, with ears 38 to locate the strip in the housing. Binding screws 30 are provided for the supply cable. A modification is described in which two sockets are provided in a single casing, Fig. 3 (not shown). The contact tips may be silvered.
