Abstract
684,579. Two-part couplings casings for electric instruments. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 2, 1951 [March 31, 1950], No. 8113/50. Classes 37 and 38 (i). An electrical instrument, or other electroresponsive device, and its casing each have corresponding sets of contacts which are bridged by a plug inserted after the instrument has been fitted in the casing, the arrangement permitting ready disconnection of the instrument from the supply. In Fig. 1 (Prov.), a block 1 attached to the instrument has moulded in it a plurality of contact strips 2. The instrument is of the draw-out type and engages at surfaces 7 a block 3 of the casing having corresponding contacts 4. The plug 8, 9 has bridging contacts riveted thereto at 10 and urged by springs 12 towards the contacts 2, 4, outward movement of the contacts 11 on withdrawal of the plug being limited by projections 15. The exposed free ends of the contacts 11 enable the spring pressure to be tested, and the contacts 11 may be brought out to terminals on the plug part 8 to enable tests to be conducted on the instrument. In the complete drawing, two springs 17, 18 are provided and the upper bridging strip 11 has an inclined end adapted to be engaged by a test probe 19 inserted through a slot 22 in the plug 8. The probe is insulating and has contacts 20, 21 which engage the contacts 2, 11.
