Abstract

503,526. Two-part couplings. ROGERS, R. H. Oct. 6, 1937, No. 27090. [Class 38 (i)] A plug-and-socket or like coupling for connecting a heating unit e to supply terminals mounted in a base a is fitted with a switch that opens when the coupling is disconnected so that the exposed terminals are not live. A socket g for an earthing pin s has a lateral opening r through which a lever o pivoted at p projects into the path of the pin s. The lever carries an insulated contact u that bridges a pair of spring contacts v when the lever is depressed by the pin e, the tip of which may be resilient. The contacts v are connected in the supply conductor by terminals w that are out of line so as to receive parallel leads. When the pin s is withdrawn the switch drops into open position before the earthing connection is broken. The device may be applied to heaters of the kind described in Specifications 475,038, [Group XI], and 492,898.
