Abstract

703,093. Two-part couplings. LIGHT & POWER ACCESSORIES CO., Ltd., and LOTT, F. J. May 22, 1952 [May 22, 1951], No. 11923/51 Class 38 (1) In order to prevent the socket of a plug-andsocket coupling from being used with any other than the correct plug, for example, a 3-phase socket with a single-phase plug, the socket body 4 has one or more " live " pins 7, Fig. 5, and an earthing pin 12 loosely housed in holes 8 therein and kept in position by the cablesecuring grub screws 9. Each " live " pin 7 has an insulating tip 13, e.g. of " Tufnol " (Registered Trade Mark) of equal, or slightly less diameter than the pin. A corresponding number of slit socket pins 15, Fig. 7, having axial bores 16 for the socket contacts 7, 12, are similarly housed in the insulating plug body 5. Both plug and socket bodies may be surrounded by earthed metal casings 3.
