Abstract
1,142,396. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 13 July, 1967 [3 Aug., 1966], No. 32198/67. Heading H2E. Insulating bodies 2, 4 of co-operating connector halves have respective fowardly-projecting flanges 56, 20 which engage telescopically on coupling the connector, each body 2, 4 also having lugs 46 and 48, 26 and 28, for panelmounting the connector. The flange 20 of the body 4 conforms in both shape and diameter to the rearward part of the body 2. Each body is an integral plastics moulding which houses plug or socket contacts (14 or 16, Fig. 2, not shown), or a mixture of plug and socket contacts, in bores 50 or 8. A rib 34 and slot 58 polarize the connector, whose halves are latched together by engagement of lances 65 behind shoulders 74. Either body 2 or 4 can be mounted in a panel aperture by engagement of lugs 46 and 48 or 26 and 28 with opposite faces of the panel, a rib 44 or 32 engaging a notch in the panel aperture to prevent rotation of the body 2 or 4. Alternatively, the connector is mounted on a panel which extends parallel to the connector axis, either by engagement of a pair of corresponding lugs 26, 48 in a single panel aperture (Fig. 7, not shown), or by engagement of a pair of corresponding lugs 28, 46 in respective panel apertures (Fig. 8, not shown).
