Abstract

704,464. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. April 30, 1952 [Jan. 30, 1951], No. 2315/51. Class 38 (1) A coupling comprises a number of combined pin and socket contact members 1 mounted in a unit comprising insulating discs 2, a rubber gasket 3, and a surrounding metal shell 7. The contacts 1 co-operate with double-ended socket contacts 4 mounted in a similar unit comprising discs 5, gasket 6, and shell 7<SP>1</SP>. The shell 7 is removably mounted in an outer shell 11, keys 14 on the shell 7 co-operating with splines 13 in the shell 11, and is held against a rubber sealing ring 15 by a threaded locking ring 18. The shell 7<SP>1</SP> is similarly held against a sealing ring 25 in an outer shell 19 by a threaded locking ring 18a. Correct connection between the contacts 1, 4 is ensured by a tongue on the shell 7 co-operating with a recess in the shell 7<SP>1</SP> when the shell 19 is coupled to the shell 11 by rotating a threaded collar 26, a further seal being formed by a ring 32. The locking rings 18, 18a, also retain rubber blocks 16, 23 respectively, which support ferruleended conductors 17, 24, for engagement with the contacts 1, 4. A ring 28 screwed on to the shell 19 retains a cable outlet member 29 and a gasket 31, a ring 28<SP>1</SP> on the shell 11 similarly retaining a gasket 30.
