Abstract
434,442. Plug couplings. WALSALL CONDUITS, Ltd., MILLARD, A. E., and STEVENS, A. H., Excelsior Works, West Bromwich. March 5, 1934, No. 6878. [Class 38 (i)] The contacts of a plug - and - socket coupling are housed each within an insulating shroud, the shrouds of corresponding contacts telescoping together and enclosing the engaged contacts. The sockets 16 are closely surrounded by the shrouds 28 which overlap the ends of the sockets leaving an entry aperture of substantially the same diameter as the pins 15. The shrouds 19 surrounding the pins 15 are spaced therefrom so as to fit over the shrouds 28 of the sockets. The shrouds carrying the contacts are loosely supported on discs 22 between which a flange 21 on each shroud fits, a projection 29 fitting a corresponding gap in one disc to prevent relative rotation. Grub screws 6 let into the projections 29 clamp the leads 18 to the contacts, and a gland for the cable comprising a screw ring 35, a split ring 36 and a washer 37 of rubber or leather is provided. The earthing socket 31 may be partially surrounded by a shroud 32. The plug member 8 is formed with a flange 9 that fits within the casing 10 of the socket member, the two being fastened together by a screw ring 12.
