Abstract

315,457. Reyrolle & Co., Ltd., A., and Wilson, G. R. April 13, 1928. Plug couplings.-A plug-and-socket coupling is constructed so that three separate movements are required to separate the two members of the coupling. The first movement separates the pins of the plug from their sockets, thus breaking the electrical connection. A second rotary movement is then required before the plug member can be pulled away from the socket member. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the plug member comprises an insulating block A carrying pins A<1> and enclosed in a casing B provided with projections B<2> and a key B<3>. The sockets D<1> are carriedby a block D enclosed in a casing F having a rim F<2> interrupted in two places F<3> and provided with a slot D<3> which may be formed at one of the interruptions F<3>. When the two members of the coupling are in contact, an axial movement separates the pins A' from the sockets D' and the key B<3> from the slot D<3>. The projections B<2> engage however with the rim F<2> and prevent complete separation of the two members of the coupling. To effect complete separation of the two members they are rotated relatively to bring the projections B<2> opposite the spaces F<3>, whereupon the plug can be withdrawn completely from the socket member. As shown in Fig. 1 the block D is secured to a member E which is screwed to a casing G which surrounds the casing B and abuts against a rib B<4> on the latter.
