Abstract
547,618. Two-part couplings. MASON, G. R., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 14, 1941, No. 7552. [Class 38 (i)] A multiple contact coupling having the contacts 2 associated with a half box 8 that co-operates with a similar formation on the counterpart coupling so that the engaged contacts are completely enclosed as described in Specification 361,099, has the body 5 moulded on to the base of the contacts, the splayed ends 1a of the cable 1 and the end of the cable itself. The boss 6 from which the contacts 2 protrude has an annular space 11 left around each contact for the entry of the counterpart. The part 8 may be moulded integrally with the body 5 or it may be made separately and formed with a flange for attachment to the flange 7 of the body 5. The part 8 may then be made of metal. The contacts 2 may be anchored in the moulding by annular grooves formed around their bases, or by an insulating rod 13 passing through aligned holes in the contacts. The body may be moulded from polythene or polystyrene.
