Abstract

679,049. Two-part couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. April 17, 1951 [April 18, 1950], No. 9485/50. Class 38 (i). [Also in Group V] In a two-part cable coupling, each part comprises a metal casing 2, Fig. 2, housing a moulded insulating body 15 in which are embedded contactstrips 9 and the end-portions of cable conductors 4 connected thereto. During the moulding operation, the free end-portions of the strips are supported in slots 13 in a mould wall 3, Fig. 1, which is subsequently withdrawn and the projecting end-portions of the strips bent over as shown to provide contact surfaces 11 or supports for contact studs. The end face of the body 15 is formed with recesses 18 which loosely receive the bent-over ends of the contact strips. The two coupling parts are secured together by an internally-threaded ring 22 on one part engaging an external thread 24 on the other part, sealing gaskets 26 being interposed between the two parts.
